Have you ever wondered, what if they got it wrong?
This story grew from that simple question.
What if all this time the search for MH370 was in the wrong place? What if those false-negative numbers were really positive and the plane went North instead of South?
What if it did fly to Kazakhstan?
What then, why and more importantly, who and what for?
Delve into a mystery more chilling than the air at forty thousand feet
This isn’t your typical Arctic adventure. It’s a thrilling tale that blends complex conundrums, unscrupulous criminals, and relentless pursuits into a gripping tale set against the backdrop of the unforgiving Arctic.
Ice Pirates grew from a germ planted some considerable years ago during a seminar on solutions to infrastructure failings in the Canadian Arctic. A truly different, (out of this world!) set of murder stories set around the simple fact that the current leading nation in space refuses to accept the Internationally Law of the Sea and its proposed extension into the cosmos. What then when an incident (accident or murder) takes place? Who has jurisdiction?
I could have written this around a killing on an ice floe but space is more fun.
The Declaration of Legal Principles Governing the Activities of States in the Exploration and Uses of Outer Space (1963) only refers to Nations. So what if as now private enterprise makes its mark into the void?
There were a number of threads I wanted to include, one of which the premise that NASA can piggyback on private venture and still call the shots is an ill-conceived notion that is already losing the high ground. ‘An unusual profession’ confronts just such a scenario and how the US would be likely to react when denied free access to a new technology.
The reality is that outer space is really cowboy country and the thread continues with the remaining four novels as to the introduction of law into the cosmos.
Life is like a snake. Don’t get too comfortable with it for it may just turn and bite you.
Pamela Shawe was content in her world. Out of the suburban rut and as a seasoned member of an Aid team she took pride in delivering aid to remote and struggling communities in a strife torn corner of the world. Here was a place she increasingly belonged. Here was a place she made a difference, where there was a meaning to life and maybe hope for the future. Paul Schilter had not welcomed the complication of a girl on his team, but he did respect what she brought to the operation. After three years in Afghanistan, Pam had become an integral part of the closely knit Norwatt crew. The going was tough on the tracks that passed for a road and for the third time this year the small convoy made slow progress in the mountainous terrain on its way up to the remote villages of the Hindu Kush. In a world where nothing is routine, everything was normal, then came the bend on the Kalkur River.
A routine local “taxation” stop goes horribly wrong and in a twist of fate Pam is saved from certain death. As the only survivor she sets out to discover the identity of her saviours and avenge the killing of her compatriots.
This story was written for my good lady in response to her challenge that I could not write a story she would appreciate. Needless to say she, like everyone else who has read it, loved it.
